December Movie Recommendations

The Holdovers - A comedy/drama film set in 1970s New England. A grumpy and unconventional professor is stuck with troublemaking student Angus, and the school cook named Mary. The film explores loneliness and the formation of human connections, amongst the melancholic and nostalgic backdrop of winter break.

Edward Scissorhands - Like many of Tim Burton's movies, the movie is characterized by a gothic and eccentric appearance. Although not conventionally a holiday movie, it tells the story of a kind and artistic Edward, who is an outsider from his scissors hands, and his love story during the holiday season.

Klaus - Apart from the craftful animation of this film, it tells a story of growth in a sad and unkind city. A spoiled postman is sent to a dreary island where he learns how to inspire kindness, with the help of a lonely carpenter who slowly finds joy again.

It’s A Wonderful Life - A classic old movie watch, it brings themes of the Christmas spirit, community, and the fragility of life in a heartfelt story.

A Charlie Brown Christmas - A Charlie Brown Christmas brings one to sentimental childhood days, when December was made of hot cocoa and the sound of cartoons.

Christmas with the Kranks - A telling of The Kranks, and their efforts to skip Christmas and instead go on a cruise ship. Scandalized by the neighbors, this film encompasses the drama and comedy within a community, as the very same neighbors help to put together a Christmas celebration for their visiting daughter.
