A Newman Tradition: Ice Skating Day
On Wednesday, January 2, 2023, the Newman school went to the Warrior Ice Arena for the annual ice skating. Students and teachers enjoyed the time talking, eating, and ice skating.
Sam Malcolmson ‘24 “liked …[the ice skating event] a lot.” Similarly, Isabella Siciliano ‘24 “thought the ice skating event was very fun and had an overall great time.” Christopher (Chris) Taylor ‘26 was not able to ice skate due to a sprained ankle. Despite that, he “enjoyed being able to socialize a little bit and talk to friends from the stands.” Lincoln Hein ‘27 agreed with the others and said, “it was really fun.”
The students also think that more of these events should occur. Siciliano thinks “the school should put on more events like this because it helps to build a community and bring everyone together for such a fun event.” Malcolmson agrees that there should be more events. He “would like to have more events like this to relax from schoolwork.” Hein and Taylor agree with the other students. Hein said, “yes 100%.”
Hein’s favorite part of the event was “socializing in school but not in a classroom environment.” Malcolmson enjoyed “trying something …[he]... normally …[doesn’t]... do.” Siciliano said, “I of course liked the skating portion the best.” She especially enjoyed seeing the others skate. She explains, “There were people who had never skated before and others who were doing figure skating spirals, which was so cool to see.”
