Newman’s Cardinal Theatre Company debuts play “Marian or The True Tale of Robin Hood”

BOSTON, MASS - Newman’s Cardinal Theater company debuts Marian or the True Tale of Robin Hood in front of school and parent audiences, in the third year of Newman’s theater company.

Marian, or the True Tale of Robin Hood is a play about the story of Robin Hood but with a modern interpretation. As the playbill describes, “In this version, many are not who they appear to be or who they discover they are. Modern questions of gender and relationships are intertwined with the iconic characters and themes of the legend of Robin Hood. This story asks us to think about what is worth fighting for and what we will do for love.”

This was the fifth production from the Cardinal Theater Company with many new members joining the cast as well.

The cast had also all gotten along really well, they had all become friends throughout the season’s practices. “It was very cool, everyone is super supportive, and would say ‘hey you’re doing a great job out there’ and it’s just a very friendly environment where we just had a really good time,” commented Arjun Rastogi ‘29.

Emma Hayhurst ‘24 commented on how Ms. Rachel Ollagnon, (IB theater teacher and theater club supervisor) makes the productions fun and easier for the members. “I’ve been a long time theater veteran, this was my third production with Ms. O, though sometimes, it can seem like a lot of work, she makes it seem very manageable, all in all, it was a great time.”

Aster Evans ‘26 agreed, “It was a lot of fun, I haven’t done a show with that sort of theme and that setting before, the props were also a lot of fun” The cast had all expressed how much fun they had preparing and performing the play, as well as looking forward to future productions.

They are hopeful and excited for what comes next for Newman’s Cardinal Theater Company.
