Field Trip Day: Grade 7 & 8 Trip to the Museum of Science
Seventh and eighth grade embarked on a field trip to the Museum of Science on Friday, October 28th. The grades recently went to a New England STEM fair at Fenway Park to learn about companies landscaping the New England region with science. On this trip, the students continued the trend of a city campus for learning.
Students were told to come to school at 8:30, and at 8:45, they began their field trip day and walked to the Museum of Science. Upon arrival, the students explored the museum on their own, viewing the many exhibits the museum has to offer. After the exploration, the students went to see a live animal presentation on tortoises and reptiles. The museum of science has an area meant solely for live presentations featuring animals and other natural wonders. To proceed, the students then viewed a four-dimensional documentary about sharks in the theaters that the Museum of Science possesses. The Museum of Science uses live presentations and theaters to immerse visitors.
After scouring the museum independently even more, students went to a lightning show, which was able to make sounds with Tesla coils, a type of electric circuit with a low-current and a high voltage level.
This concluded the morning, and students went to the cafeteria to have a quick thirty-minute lunch. Students finished their day after going to an incredible Omni Theatre documentary on Africa’s Serengeti.
This field trip taught students a range of things about science, from ecosystems to electricity. Students were able to do things as a group and exercise increasing independence at the same time. Thank you to all who participated in and organized this field trip. I would also like to give a special thank you to the Newsman photographer Basile Badea ‘28, for providing the photos and information for this article.
