Girls Varsity Soccer Kicks Off With a Successful Debut in the Fall 2022 Athletic Season

The fall sports at Newman have come to a close. I sat down with the captains of the girls varsity soccer team, Amelia Barbosa and Gemma Worley. This newly established team had a very successful season. The captains described the van rides as their favorite part of the season, with the song Twenty Minutes by Lil Uzi Vert making several appearances. Amelia said that this was a time for the team to get hyped up before the game, and a stress-free zone. The captains said the dynamic of the team was very supportive. Gemma describes the team as bringing each other up instead of pulling each other down. They described the team as having a good vibe. Girls soccer is a new sport at Newman, and with this comes a lot of players who are new to the game. Amelia and Gemma said that even with this, there was a lot of trust in the team and in each other. Their favorite team to play against was Chapel-Hill Chauncy Hall and Boston Trinity Academy. These games, which they won, gave the team confidence that they could compete against other teams. For next season, Gemma is excited to build the team more and gain more confidence as a group. Overall, the captains are very happy with the way the season ended and the friendships that were created during the season. They are very proud of everyone and excited for the start of the next season.
